Sunday photos: Menorcan flowers

I’ve been on holiday in Menorca, which is a lovely island, about the same size as La Palma. One of the highlights of my trip was a hike through the s’Albufera des Grau national park from the lighthouse at Favàritx to the village of es Grau.

I took a gazillion photos of course. This week’s photos are some of the flowers I saw. I was glad I’d made the effort to bring along my good camera, in spite of weight and suitcase space.

I haven’t had chance to identify any of the flowers. Many of them were similar to Palmeran flowers, but not the same. It figures. The two islands have similar climates and you expect divergent evolution on islands.

Many of them were tiny, so I was doing lots of what I call “photographer’s yoga” – contorting into weird positions to get the best shot.

The hike was 8.6 km so I was tired afterwards, but I was pleasantly surprised not to be completely wiped out. I’m definitely getting fitter. It probably helps that Menorca is flatter than La Palma.
