Astrofest 2018

El Verde, where the last rays of the setting sun on the summer solstice light up rock carvings

I spent most of the weekend in the Astrofest conference, learning from other people in the stargszing industry. We heard from prfessionals from La Palma, Tenerife, Fuertaventura, Aragon, Malaga, Extremadura, Andalucia, Alquevera (Portugal), Chile and Peru. I caught up with a lot of old friends and made some new ones. I got a flat behind from all that sitting, and a lot of ideas (far more than I’ll ever have time to use).

My favourite bit though was the trip to El Verde Of course it was neither sunset nor the solstice, but the people who hadn’t seen it before were very impressed.

Sheila came to La Palma with a six month contract and has stayed 24 years so far. She used to work as a software engineer at the observatory, but now she's a writer and Starlight guide.
