This morning when I finished work I went up to the Roque itself to relax and admire the view. Helen Loth kindly agreed to take a photo of me with my book and the telescopes.

While we were doing that, Carmelo the raven came to say “Hello”. Well no, he really came to see whether I had anything nice to eat. But he stayed to have a look at “The Seer’s Stone”, my anthology of children’s stories, which mentions him.
He’s a Canarian raven (Corvus corax canariensis), which means he’s very clever, but even so, I doubt that he can actually read English.

Sheila came to La Palma with a six month contract and has stayed 24 years so far. She used to work as a software engineer at the observatory, but now she's a writer and Starlight guide.
