Here in the Canaries we feel that sanity is a little over-rated. It has it's place, of course, but 51 weeks per year is quite enough of it. The other week is Carnival.
Here are a few photos from Carnival 2006.
On Saturday we had the Ambassadors' Parade. Everyone was invited to come as the ambassador for any country they fancied. Here are some of the results.

Unfortunately I missed the best night, Los Indianos, because it was raining and I had a heavy cold already. The next night I went out was the Sardine's Funeral. Nope, you read that right. At the end of Carnival we have a funeral for a sardine. The funeral procession starts at the north end of town, winds its way through the streets with the mourners howling with pretend grief, and ends up on the seafront. The sardine's cremated there with accompanying fireworks.

And then we have a street party with lots of salsa music. As on other Carnival nights, lots of people come out in fancy dress.
