Sunday Photos: The Sardine’s funeral

Carnival is pretty much over, but it went out with a bang. Well, lots of bangs. Saturday night was the Sardine’s funeral in Los Sauces. I don’t know why carnival ends with a sardine’s funeral, but I do know that it’s lots of fun and the one in Los Sauces is the best. Like most carnival events, many people come in costume. The sardine’s funeral usually has a Halloweeny theme….

Sunday photos: Los indianos 2020

March 1, 2020

I went down to Los Indianos in the afternoon with friends. It was fun, of course. As usual, a good part of the fun was watching everyone else. The local TV were there, with their camera well protected. And as usual, the little kids were incredibly cute

Time for some fun.

It’s been freakishly warm for months, but winter suddenly arrived on Thursday. I pretty much spent the day hibernating, apart form German class. Yesterday morning I went into town. It was raining but that usually means very short queues everywhere. I didn’t take an umbrella because of the gusty wind, just a cagoule. I got everything done, with gaps of waiting around in shops for the heavy showers, then headed…

The Sardine’s funeral in Los Sauces, 2015

March 1, 2015

Last night was the famous sardine’s funeral in Los Sauces. As usual, there were lots of amazing costumes: some ingenious, some cheap and cheerful, some extravagant, many humourous.   It’s traditional to serve fried sardines, and very tasty they are too.               One group brought along this amazing fairy tale coach. They were inviting children to have their photo taken in it. Being a…
