Sunday photos: pine woods

September 27, 2020

It’s been another busy week. I’ve finished the proof corrections to the guide book which is a huge relief. As I’ve probably mentioned quite a few times, I’ve been trying to finish the guide book update for at least three years. It will be fantastic when the corrections are done and checked, and I can send it to the printers. The whodunnit edit is now up to chaper 54 (of…

Sunday photos: comet Neowise

Comet Neowise from jsut below Llano del Jable, El Paso
July 26, 2020

I finally got to see the comet! The plan was to go to El Llano del Jable, but I found cars parked solidly along the roadside for a kilometre or more before the viewpoint itself, so I settled for what I could get. Unfotunately I’d had to leave in a hurry and I found that I’d brought the wrong tripod. This one wouldn’t connect with the camera, so I wedged…

Sunday photos: Las Barandas Viewpoint

Los Tilos ravine from the Las Barandas viewpoint, San Andres y Sauces, La Palma island
July 19, 2020

I’ve had another good walk. The path up to Las Barandas viewpoint starts from the back of Los Tilos visitor centre. It’s seriously steep; you climb 300 m (about the height of the Eiffel tower) in just 1.3 km. In other words, it’s almost a staircase. I’m rather proud of myself for making it, and I feel I’m cloesr to being able to do the volcanoes walk by the…

Sunday Photos: The River Spring, Garafia

July 12, 2020

It feels a bit odd to be back. For the moment I’ve stopped work on the novel and I’m back the the Spanish 3rd edition of the guide book, checking that I’m handing over the right files for layout. It’s not the most interesting job but it needs doing and I want a break from the novel before I go back to it, so I can look at it with…

Sunday Photos: Garafía

Dragon trees in the Fagundo ravine, Garafía
July 6, 2020

I’ve just spent a lovely week in Garafía with my friend Petra. The plan was for her to walk a lot and for me to walk a bit and write a lot, and that’s pretty much what we did. After 30 years on La Palma, I still occasionally discover new places, and this holiday was no exception. The photo above is the Fagundo ravine, from the viewpoint at Las Calzadas….

Sunday Photos: setting off

June 28, 2020

The photos are from another walk in the woods. I’m definitely getting fitter. I have good news. After several weeks of dithering, my writing holiday is booked. I’m leaving in five minutes for a cottage in the north of the island. My friend wants to go on long walks without having to drive for two hours to get to the starting point. She’s much fitter than me and she might…
