A Guide to the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory

This is the cover design for my ebook, “A Breathtaking Window on the Universe: a guide to the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory”, which should be on sale by late summer or autumn of 2012. It explains why the observatory is on La Palma and how a telescope and its instruments work, and gives details of each telescope, plus many anecdotes and over 60 photos. I’ll be posting full details…

Some fun: A Local Sardine

March 10, 2012

Last night I went to a third sardine’s funeral, in El Llanito, near San Pedro. (I’m doing well this year.) It’s only a small, local party, but it’s close and we’d heard that it was good. Unlike most places, the bier was carried by the sardine’s widows.  Like most places, the widows were very tall and muscular. I particularly liked this old lady, who kept insisting on more rum in her…

Ungah!

OK, it’s not nearly as bad as I feared. Paypal are refusing to process payments for books including “rape for tittilation” rather than any mention of rape at all. And of course, Paypal deciding they don’t want to being a certain business is different from government censorship. I still think it’s a bad decision. More sardine’s funerals

Here’s a short video of Los Sauces Sardine’s funeral, 2012 It’s not a properly edited video, but if I wait until I’ve had chance to do that, I might be waiting forever. Enjoy! And on Saturday at 9:30 pm, Los Sauces will be holding their sardine’s funeral, with a…

Gah!

I’ve been wrestling all week with the software to sell ebooks from my new site at http://dragontree.sheilacrosby.com, and just when I finally got a file associated with each product (the file you actually get to download), Paypal changed their terms and conditions. Smashwords are telling authors to remove fiction that contains themes of bestiality, rape, incest and under-age sex at the behest of Paypal who say it’s to comply with…

Los Sauces Sardine

The sardine’s funeral in Los Sauces had a Roman theme this year. As always, the bier was carried by lots of humans (rather than a lorry) and they danced it through the streets and around the square. Los Sauces has the reputation of putting on a much better sardine’s funeral than Santa Cruz, and I think it’s true. Of course it’s self-perpetuating. People make more effort to get to the…
