Summer Solstice

Los Tilos Waterfall

Canarian waterfalls aren’t common. There are lots of temporary waterfalls after heavy rain, but they tend to be very short-lived. But La Palma has two, pretty much year round. The Reward for Insomnia

I woke up at 6 am and couldn’t get back to sleep. By 6:20, I gave up trying, and went out onto the balcony to see if I could learn another constellation. I took one look at the moon and Venus, and then I dashed back inside for my camera.

The Moon and Venus

  I’m glad I woke up early today. These were taken from my balcony in Breña Baja at 6:30 am. For the top one I used a compact camera (Canan SX220) and tripod. For the bottom one, a Pentax DSLR (K 10D) and tripod. On La Palma, you can get results like this with very modest equipment and skill.
