Science week

It’s science week and the astrophysics institute is organising events all around the Canaries.

On Monday 26th at noon in the teachers’ centre there’s a workshop for 6th form students on atmospheric turbulence, and how astronomers compensate for it

On Monday 26th at 6pm Ovidiu Vaduvescu will give a talk on near-Earth asteroids (in Spanish) in the San Fransico convent, Santa Cruz de la Palma

On Tuesday 27th, there’s a children’s puppet show in the Circo de Marte theatre (performances at 10 am and 12 noon, free.) The idea is that two children (the puppets) gatecrash a scientific conference and start asking awkward questions. Sounds good. (More details, in Spanish at

And there’s another talk at the convent at 6pm on Wednesday 28th by Romano Corradi “From stars to life” (also in Spanish)

Sheila came to La Palma with a six month contract and has stayed 24 years so far. She used to work as a software engineer at the observatory, but now she's a writer and Starlight guide.
