I’ve missed it. So I’d better get on with getting the book published, hadn’t I?
Curiosity is sitting on a stream bed
The Mars rover Curiosity is driving over a dried-up stream bed. Looking at the gravel under Curiosity, NASA scientists say the water must have flowed about 1 m/s and been somewhere between 10 cm and a metre deep. That’s a lot of water, although it was probably billions of years ago.
Galaxies and other Universes
Merche Martin Morillo has an exhibition of paintings in the Sala O’Daly on the Calle Real, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, entitled “Galaxies and other Universes”. I like the paintings of fishes, but I prefer the astronomical themed paintings. Merche has interpreted subjects like pulsars and asteroids freely, rather than attempting copies of astronomical photos, which makes for a much more interesting result. On Friday 28th September is Volcanoes Night in Fuencaliente. This free event, open to everybody, offers the chance to meet volcanologists and geologists and find out what they do. Much of the program is in Spanish, but there will be 30 minute guided tours around San Antonio volcano explaining the geological history of the island with translations to English available (starting 4pm), and science cafés in the wrestling arena, starting…
