I went down to Los Indianos in the afternoon with friends. It was fun, of course. As usual, a good part of the fun was watching everyone else. The local TV were there, with their camera well protected. And as usual, the little kids were incredibly cute
Carnival really starts with the wig party. It’s a great idea because a cheap wig is cheap and fun but creative people can get creative. Essentially we put on an art show for each other. And then drink and dance. Sometimes groups of friends go with the same disguise – it think it would halp to keep track of each other in the crowds. Some designs are definitely one off….
I went up to the Roque to get phtoos of the MAGIC telescope at sunset – hopefully the last photos for the guide book update. On the way down I stopped off at Los Andennes to photograph the Caldera. I’ve always loved the way the trees and ridges float on and outof the cloud. This time one ridge was floating above the cloud rather like a submarine surfacing. I think…

Santa Cruz de La Palma used to have a shipyard. One of the largest ships they built was La Verdad, 485 tons displacement, which was wrecked on a reef south of Bermuda shortly after a hurricane in 1899. Santa Cruz has been building a new beach for ages. This morning it was finally opened. I got to hear at lunchtime, and immediately went for a paddle. Of course a big wave came along and now I have damp trousers, but it was well worth it. I’d forgotten how much fun it is to be eight years old for a while.
