I went to visit my friends in Franceses on Wednesday, and en route I left book on sale or return in Los Sauces (the librería Iriarte) and Barlovento (librería Barlovento.) Then Friday was the open day for Garafía (the observatory is built in land ceded by Garafía Town Hall, so they get their own open day.) And now the Art Fair
Now that the craft fair has finished, Los Cancajos is getting ready for the art fair. It will feature 29 painters, sculptors and photographers, and run from August 23 – 25, from 11.00 am to 9 pm. There will also be workshops from aged 8 onwards, and musical performances (see below) 29 different artists
Mars’s moons
Mars has two moons, Demios is very small – only about 12 km in diameter, and orbits in 30 hours. But since a Martian day is 24 hours, 39 minutes long, Demios isn’t much above synchronous orbit, and it takes 2.7 days to rise in the east and set in the west. More on the Craft Fair
The fair is even better than I thought. It turns out that there’s 100 stalls of non-edible craft work, (although some exhibitors have half a stand) and 20 of food and drink. The non-edible stuff includes lots of embroidery, crochet, tatting, leather work, felting, traditional folk dress, wooden boxes and bowls, notebooks and photo albums made of banana paper, paper and glass beads, wrought iron work, several very different styles…
Craft Fair
The annual craft fair is now on in Los Cancajos. It’s a big event: there’s usually something like 80 stall holders displaying all kindsof crafts. Lots of embroidery and baskets, but also modern ceramics, tin smiths, candles, hand-made paper, pastries and buiscuits, liqueurs, jewelry made from dragon tree seeds, lava, or hand-made glass beads, painted silk, etc. Today, Thursday 15th, is a public holiday, and I’ve heard that the fair…
