Friday was a bit mad. I showed a group around GTC in the morning, then went almost directly to the airport. I was booked on the 7:30 pm flight, but that left things rather tight the other end, so I joined the waiting list and waited. And waited. And got on the 6 pm flight instead (hallelujah!) That meant I got to La Laguna on Tenerife in comfortable time for…
Photos of the week: May 20th
It’s been a busy week: constant headaches, my annual mammogramme, two cruise ship excursions, three German exams, a massage from the physioterrorist, a short (3-hour) course on internet marketing and a morning tour guiding at the Roque. Oh, and being taken out for lunch for Mother’s Day. This particular corner of Spain celebrates it on the 3rd Sunday in May, and has done since before the rest of Spain chose…
Photos of the week: insects on flowers
On Tuesday I went for a photo stroll with my friend Petra. Looking at the photos now, I think I see a bit of a theme here although i wasn’t conscious of one at the time. I caught up with a lot of old friends and made some new ones. I got a flat behind from all that sitting, and a lot of ideas (far more than I’ll ever have…
The lost week
Where did the last eleven days go? Well I went to see the bell of La Verdad finally arrive on La Palma. I’ve had three mornings’ work as a tour guide. I’ve had my German oral exam and passed: three more exams to go. I’ll be done in a couple of weeks but I still have a lot of studying to do. Apart from that it’s something of a mystery…
Switching the stars on
I was quite worried about stargazing on Friday, because I was out of practice and the weather report was distinctly dodgy. Actually it all went well. I particularly enjoyed the little kids who were looking through a telescope for the first time. Witha bit of luck I set someone on their first steps to enjoying science. I was hoping to show people a crescent Venus (yes, it goes through phases…
