Next week the European Astronomical Society (EAS) will be holding their annual meeting at the ‘Guajara Campus’ of the University of La Laguna (ULL) in La Laguna, Tenerife. This is the 23rd EWASS, and the first one in Tenerife. The organisers are expecting over 1,100 participants. I’ll be there on Wednesday from around 1 pm to 7 pm, to sell and sign my books (more details of exactly where…
A memorable trip to Tenerife
Today I went to Tenerife with my son. The first attempt to land at Tenerife North airport was aborted due to “mumble-crackle-mumble” but we both thought he said, “dead animals on the runway”. Wut? Anyway, the second attempt at landing was routine. So we went and did the stuff we’d planned, and I got on with my whodunnit, then we had some time to spare before catching the return…
A Review of “The Seer’s Stone”
I finally got a review on Amazon.co.uk, and it’s lovely. FROM 8 to 80 + By C. Fischer on 4 Jun. 2015 We bought Sheila Crosby’s book, The Seer’s Stone, for my daughter-in-law who occasionally works with children and the night sky. Apparently they have new management who want everyone to…
Corpus Christi tomorrow
Tomorrow is Corpus Christi in Mazo. That is, they’ll be making the archways and carpets tonight, and most people will go and see them tomorrow, but they’ll stay up until Sunday night. Also on Sunday they’ll hold a special mass in the church followed by a procession around the archways. The archways will stay up until Sunday. If you miss this, you can see some examples from previous years…
Finally put to bed.
At long, long last, the Spanish second edition of my guide book to the observatory, “Una espectacular ventana al universo” has gone to the printers. I’ve been trying to put it to bed for weeks, but it kept wandering downstairs asking for another drink of water. Here it is, finally tucked in with its favourite bookmark. In other news, Padwon needs a new home. I’m told he’s very well behaved and…
