From 23rd – 25th March, Fotonature will run photography classes on La Palma. All classes take place in Spanish in the Casa de Cultura in Los Llanos de Aridane, although two of the teachers are from the United States and will presumably give their talk with a translator. La Palma’s pine forests are lovely, and at this time of the year, the upper reaches are often above the clouds, even when it’s raining below. There’s an unusual exhibition on in Santa Cruz de la Palma. Instead of one or two artists selling their work, it’s a collection of artists publicising the 15M movement, which is approximately the Spanish equivalent of Occupy Wall Street. The north-west of the island is home to great many almond trees, and at this time of the year, they’re all blossoming. The trees in El Paso and Garafía are beautiful, but the best display of all is at Puntagorda. In fact Puntagorda hosts an annual almond blossom fiesta.
