Now that the craft fair has finished, Los Cancajos is getting ready for the art fair. It will feature 29 painters, sculptors and photographers, and run from August 23 – 25, from 11.00 am to 9 pm. There will also be workshops from aged 8 onwards, and musical performances (see below) 29 different artists
The fair is even better than I thought. It turns out that there’s 100 stalls of non-edible craft work, (although some exhibitors have half a stand) and 20 of food and drink. The non-edible stuff includes lots of embroidery, crochet, tatting, leather work, felting, traditional folk dress, wooden boxes and bowls, notebooks and photo albums made of banana paper, paper and glass beads, wrought iron work, several very different styles…
The annual craft fair is now on in Los Cancajos. It’s a big event: there’s usually something like 80 stall holders displaying all kindsof crafts. Update: The activity has been cancelled due to bad weather. Astrotour are offering the chance to see comet Pan-STARRS through a telescope for free. You just have to turn up at Mirador de las Brujas on Saturday 16th at 7pm, but be sure to bring warm clothes (it’s over 4,000 ft) and something to eat. Hot drinks are probably a good idea too. From 23rd – 25th March, Fotonature will run photography classes on La Palma. All classes take place in Spanish in the Casa de Cultura in Los Llanos de Aridane, although two of the teachers are from the United States and will presumably give their talk with a translator. Spain celebrates Father’s Day on March 19th, which is St. Jospeh’s Day (St. Joseph being Jesus’s earthly father.) So fathers will get gifts and charming, wobbly cards made at school.
