Father’s Day on La Palma

Spain celebrates Father’s Day on March 19th, which is St. Jospeh’s Day (St. Joseph being Jesus’s earthly father.) So fathers will get gifts and charming, wobbly cards made at school. Folk Music for Canary Day

Like everywhere else, the Canaries have their own folk music, and no, it’s not “The Birdie Song.” The group Alfaguara will be performing folk music and dancing in traditional costumes on Saturday night, the 29th of May, in the car park in Cancajos.  (Presumably, this means the big one at the north end of the village, opposite the Centro Cancajos.) The Octopus’s funeral has been rescheduled for Friday 26th. The procession will leave the pharmacy at 8 pm and make its way to the beach, where the octopus will be cremated.
