Roadworks on the Roque Road

  The road from Santa Cruz to the Roque (LP-4)is closed for repairs at the top between km 32 the Los Andennes viewpoint (the spectacular one that  looks out over the Caldera) and km 35, the Observatory turnoff. They’ve been working on the drainage ditches at the side of the road for some time, but now that they’re putting down a new layer of asphalt, the road is completely closed…

Roadworks in Barlovento

There are roadworks on the main road between Barlovento and Gallegos – the LP1. They only last for about 10 km, but as you can see, the road currently looks like a rally-type video game. I’m sure it’ll be great when they’ve finished. But in the mean time I recommend allowing extra time, and avoiding it at night.

North Road Closing

We’ve had major roadworks in the north of the island for some time, with some places reduced to one lane, so that you have to wait for traffic lights. Now they’ll be closing the road completely at km 24, just north of Los Sauces, twice a day. The road will be closed Monday – Friday 9:30 am – 12:30 am and 4 pm – 7 pm.

Road to the Roque Blocked

The road from Santa Cruz to the Roque is blocked by snow at least until midday tomorrow. It’s open on the Garafía side, but only to 4-wheel drive vehicles. Years ago, when I was on duty overnight at the Roque in winter, it was part of my job to check the road in the morning to see whether or not it was safe for cars to come up to site….
