Sunday Photos: ballistic dandelions

February 28, 2021

Sow thistles look rather like a dandelion gone ballistic. They’re also really popular with insects. This morning I when to the garden at the Caldera visitor centre, and had fun trying to get macro photos of all the insects enjoying the feast. I made lots and lots of notes for the new novel. In the last couple of days, I think I have a rather nice romance sub-plot going, although…

Sunday Photos: backlit flowers

May 24, 2020

One of the advantages of going for a walk early in the morning is the near horizontal light. I’ve been havng a nice time photographing backlit flowers this week. It’s also nice to get out early because it’s pretty hot by mid afternoon. Next week the beaches open up, but I think I’ll wait for a couple of days before I go myself – I’m worried that they’ll be crowded….

Sunday photos: bejeques

December 24, 2019

Bejeques or saucer plants (Aeonium in Latin) are a genus of plants. There are loads of dfferent ones in the Canary Islands, but this is the very common one. Sunday photos: seed heads

July 21, 2019

They aren’t dandelions, but i think they must be in the same family. After I got the photo…

Sunday photos: Menorcan flowers

May 19, 2019

I’ve been on holiday in Menorca, which is a lovely island, about the same size as La Palma. One of the highlights of my trip was a hike through the s’Albufera des Grau national park from the lighthouse at Favàritx to the village of es Grau.   I took a gazillion photos of course. This week’s photos are some of the flowers I saw. I was glad I’d made the…

Sunday photos

May 12, 2019

By the time this is published I should be in Menorca for a week’sholiday with friends. These photos were’not taken on Menorca though, if only because I’ll be arriving on Saturday night. This lot were taken on La Palma, at the old airport and along the LP1 footpath. The insects were really enjoying the spring flowers. While I’m on Menorca, I hope to go walking in the Albufera des Grau…
